INTRODUCTION
Homoeopathy
offers a holistic approach to mental health, focusing on treating the
individual, not just symptoms. This approach addresses the physical, emotional,
and mental aspects of well-being, making it a valuable option for managing
mental diseases. Mental health conditions like anxiety and depression are
increasingly prevalent, affecting millions worldwide. Conventional treatments
often come with side effects, leading many to seek alternative therapies.
Homoeopathy, a system of alternative medicine, has been used for centuries to
treat various health conditions, including mental diseases. With its holistic
approach and individualized treatment, homoeopathy offers a promising option
for managing anxiety and depression. This review aims to explore the clinical
evidence and case studies on the efficacy of homoeopathic remedies in managing
anxiety and depression, shedding light on its potential as a complementary or
alternative treatment option.
KEY DEFNITION:
Homoeopathy : A system of alternative medicine that uses highly diluted substances to stimulate the body's natural healing processes, treating the individual, not just the symptoms.
Anxiety : A mental health condition characterized by excessive worry, fear, or anxiety, often accompanied by physical symptoms.
Depression : A mood disorder marked by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities.
Individualized Treatment: A personalized approach to treatment, where the remedy is tailored to the individual's unique symptoms, personality, and emotional state.
REVIEW STUDY:
1.Homeopathy and Mental Health: Exploring the Impact of Homeopathic Remedies on Anxiety and Depression.[1]
Summary:
Study: 12 adults with depression, social phobia, or panic disorder received individualized homeopathic treatment. (Singh, P., 2025).
Response
Rates:
- 58% (clinical global improvement scale) (Singh, P.,
2025).
- 50% (SCL-90/Brief Social Phobia Scale) (Singh, P.,
2025).
Conclusion:
Homeopathy may be useful for affective and anxiety disorders, particularly for patients with mildly to severely symptomatic conditions.
2. Efficacy of Homeopathic Remedies in Reducing Anxiety Symptoms: A Randomized Controlled Trial.[2] (Singh, R. P., 2025).
Homeopathic remedies have shown promise in reducing anxiety symptoms, with studies indicating a small but positive direction of anxiolytic effect favoring homeopathy over placebo. A randomized controlled trial found that individualized homeopathic medicines (IH) plus psychological counseling (PC) resulted in significant improvements in anxiety symptoms, with a 50% reduction in GAD-7 scores. The study, conducted on 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder, reported a significant difference in Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) scores favoring IH over placebo. (Singh, R. P., 2025).
Key Findings:
HAM-A Score Reduction : IH group showed a significant reduction in HAM-A scores, indicating improved anxiety symptoms. (Singh, R. P., 2025).
GAD-7 Score Reduction : 50% of patients in the IH group achieved a
50% reduction in GAD-7 scores. (Singh, R. P., 2025).
Effect
Size : Small to medium effect sizes were observed, indicating a moderate impact
of homeopathy on anxiety symptoms.
Common
Remedies: Calcarea carbonica, Sepia officinalis, and Natrum Arsenicum were
commonly used remedies.
These findings suggest that homeopathy may be a viable alternative or complement to conventional treatments for anxiety disorders. However, more high-quality studies are needed to confirm these results.
3.Homoeopathic treatment for severe depression with psychotic features: a case report.[3] (Moorthi & Radhika, 2020).
A case of severe depression with psychotic features was treated with individualized homeopathic medicine (Apis mellifica 200 and Stramonium 200) at National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health. The patient showed significant improvement, with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) score reducing from 31 to normal and Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) score reducing from 56 to normal, indicating full remission without any conventional medication or adjunctive therapy. (Moorthi & Radhika, 2020).
4.A clinical study on the role of constitutional remedies in the management of minor depressive disorder in young age group.[4] (Ghosh & Kakandikar, 2025).
Key finding:
A study on
30 young adults (18-35 years) with Minor Depressive Disorder (MDD) found that
constitutional homeopathic remedies significantly improved symptoms. Ignatia
Amara (13.33%), Nat Sulph (10%), and Nat Mur (10%) were the most commonly
prescribed remedies. The mean PHQ-9 score decreased from 8.77 to 2.53 after
treatment, with 80% of patients showing marked improvement. Males (63.33%) and
students (86.67%) were more affected. Constitutional prescribing was effective
in managing MDD in young adults. (Ghosh & Kakandikar, 2025).
5. Homoeopathic management of generalised anxiety disorder: A case report.[5]
The
patient, a 47-year-old female with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), showed
significant improvement with individualized homoeopathic treatment.
Result:
Treatment: Sepia 200, followed by Sepia 1M (Moorthi, 2023).
Symptoms: Anxiety, palpitations, fear, and weeping improved by 90%
(Moorthi, 2023).
HAM-A Score: Reduced from 20 (moderate-to-severe) to 4 (remission
stage) (Singh, R. P., 2025). (Moorthi, 2023).
Follow-up: 5 follow-ups over 3 months showed sustained
improvement. (Moorthi, 2023).
SUMMARY:

- Individualized homeopathic medicines (IH) plus psychological
counseling (PC) resulted in significant improvements in anxiety symptoms, with
a 50% reduction in GAD-7 scores. (Singh, R. P., 2025).
